Jeff Healey Estate releases new and original recordings
Sometimes a track just hits you for one reason or another, and we feel that way with today’s #TrackOfTheDay. Today we have chosen the song I Misunderstood by Jeff Healey from the album Heal My Soul which was recently released by his estate. The album, and this track in particular, is incredibly powerful and moving. A lovesick Healey reaching out at you from beyond the grave, still making the blues sound more crushing and more heartbreaking than the fact the man himself is no longer with us.
The album is a compilation of new and previously unreleased, original material that is just as crisp and fresh and his albums that he released during his lifetime. It was just over eight years ago that Jeff lost his battle with sarcoma cancer, and since 2008 his estate have released three albums. However none of those previous three efforts have come close to the raw emotion that this album conjures up, particularly on the track that we have chosen. Although we know Jeff would have gone on to create more fantastic material in his career, this ‘lost’ album is a small piece of the genius he was capable of.
The track I Misunderstood is actually a cover of a track from British artist Richard Thompson‘s 1991 album Rumor and Sigh. A very strong and emotional track by both artists’ interpretation, Healey grabs this track by the scruff of the neck and takes it to blues classic level. The solo guitar interludes between vocals and the delivery of those very vocals makes you long not to see the subject of the track, but to see Healey himself. Healey was a superb artist both on stage and in the studio and the perfect artist to take today’s #TrackOfTheDay, we hope you enjoy.
