Greyhounds Back Out In The Lead With Change Of Pace
Thanks for coming back for another superb track, we are glad you have again kept an open mind and stuck with us! Today we nudge you in the direction of another new album, one which has us all talking here at the Blue Cafe, particularly because we are all trying to work out whether it is actually Blues at all. So what is the appeal about today’s #TrackOfTheDay? Well Greyhounds have been about for some time, likeable, talented and waiting for their moment, but some might say they had little spark to go with their abundance of musical appeal.
Well they may just have found that on their recently released album Change Of Pace, from which we have chosen the second track Walls as our track today. It seems Greyhounds have found politics, and if they haven’t just discovered it, they’ve certainly got a lot to say about it now.
If I can summarise the Greyhounds in just a paragraph… Greyhounds are a duo consisting of singer/songwriters Anthony Farrell and Anthony Trube who have now released six studio albums since their debut album Liberty in 2004. They have released their last three with their current label, the revived label Ardent Records, our favourite being their 2014 album Accumulator.
So how can we describe them? With their unique brand of soulful blues, Greyhounds move effortlessly from their regular piano-driven style on tracks like Devil’s Eyes to the hip-hop style thumping beat on our chosen track Walls. The album is not relentless, it is not a musical workout – but a journey, often very melodic through a number of very well written numbers, incidentally all recorded on rewired keyboards and junkshop guitars. Add plenty of politically-charged vocals and you’ve got an album we can recommend. Come by for another #TrackOfTheDay tomorrow – download today’s track below to get you by until then.
