Following the success of #ColneBlues2017, Jessica Foxley Unsigned seek outstanding, unsigned, young talent (solo artists or bands) to complement the line-up of main artists playing at the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival 2018 in Colne, Lancashire.
Four outstanding, but as yet unsigned, young acts are invited to perform on the two main stages at The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival in Colne, Lancashire in August 2018.
There is no entry fee; simply an online application form needs to be completed in order to be considered.
Applicants are requested to submit links to a sound recording and a video of their act performing at least one song live, all via the online form. Solo artists, or the lead musicians in bands, must be young and based in the UK; the focus is on supporting musicians up to the age of about 25.
Applications are perused – then discussed by a panel of judges – who will use the submitted sound recordings and videos to select a shortlist and the four ‘winners’.
Margaret Foxley (from Jessica Foxley Unsigned) explains further. “Bringing together young talent from across the UK and giving them a high profile performance opportunity is what our project is all about. In 2017, Jessica Foxley Unsigned selected a number of acts to perform on the two main festival stages at the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival from over sixty applications. The calibre of talent during 2017 was so high that, when asked to nominate one of our acts for the UK Blues Challenge, we were faced with a very difficult decision. We encourage bands and individuals to apply for the 2018 festival – the media exposure for your band/act alone would be worth it!”
The use friendly application process is available via the Jessica Foxley Unsigned website. Applications will be judged on the following criteria – originality, creativity, technical ability, musical compatibility (with a broadly based, contemporary Blues festival) and entertainment value. The application deadline is 21st February 2018.
Robert J Hunter, who played the 2017 festival, explains how Jessica Foxley Unsigned helped him… “JFU (Jessica Foxley Unsigned) kick-started our career. We had been under the radar on the blues scene until we were offered the chance to perform at The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival 2017. We have achieved so much since then thanks to JFU. Young exciting bands deserve to be discovered”.

The festival takes place in numerous town centre venues (from 750 to 50 capacity), Colne & Nelson Rugby Club (which also doubles-up as the festival campsite), plus many more restaurants and bars. This beautiful town is an ideal location for an event of this kind, with one long ‘main’ street (closed to traffic) which hosts on-street entertainment, busking, incredible food stalls, bars and much more.
Each music venue is within easy reach of the main street, making this event not only Europe’s best contemporary blues festival, but also one-of-a-kind and much-loved festival for people of the local area.
You can find out more at their website, otherwise we will continue to keep you updated during the build-up to the event.
More on Jessica Foxley Unsigned
Jessica Foxley Unsigned was set up in 2010 in Jessica’s memory, to provide high profile performance opportunities for young musicians.
Now in its 9th year, the project has gone from strength-to-strength and attracts young musicians of a very high standard from across the UK. This year, they’ll invite four outstanding, but as yet unsigned, young acts to play sets on the two main festival stages on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival.
The ’emerging’ young talent will rub shoulders with the superb line-up of professional acts, in a truly exciting musical melting pot.
